7-Zip is a simple, free, open source archiver, with a very high compression ratio. Unlike some other high performance similar programs, 7-Zip can be used on any computer, on private as well as commercial gadgets. Not even registration is required.
7-Zip supports lots of compression formats, including packing / unpacking from/to 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM, as well unpacking AR, ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DMG, EXT, FAT, GPT, HFS, IHEX, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, QCOW2, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, UEFI, VDI, VHD, VMDK, WIM, XAR and Z.
With the 7z format, it is said to deliver a superior compression rate compared to other similar programs. The graphic user interface can use one of the over 60 inbuilt languages.
System requirements
7-Zip works in Windows 7 – 10, Vista, XP, 2012, 2008, 2003, 2000 & Win NT. There is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix, according to the publisher.
